Serves as a knowledge resource and uses independent judgment to help physicians plan the optimum management of toxicologic problems. Serves as a knowledge resource and uses independent judgment to help physicians plan optimum management of animal bite victims with potential rabies exposures. Has the responsibility for evaluating the toxic hazards and initiating appropriate management of toxicologic emergencies, potential rabies exposures, and problems presented by the public. Interacts with government emergency resources (fire, police, medical) in organizing response to toxic emergencies. Reports all potential rabies exposures to Georgia State Department of Human Resources. Represents the hospital through contacts with the news media and through community health programs. Trains and supervises junior members of the poison center staff and participates in the training of house staff, medical students and other health care professionals.
